Mastering the evening routine is a challenging feat but 100% achievable.
The exhaustion from a hard day's work, spending time with friends or family, and even time alone should be a factor when developing your schedule.
The evening routine will depend on so many factors. Are you a single adult working from home or outside the home? Are you still in school? Are you a parent that manages the household or works outside the home? Are you a parent with toddlers or teenagers? Are you married? The framework I'll lay out will be general, but you should finesse it for your lifestyle.
Moment after Work
The moment you enter the door is a relief, but it also starts another shift - the at-home shift. Be intentional with the time you'll spend on tasks, so you'll guarantee to have some time to organize your life and spend more time on the most critical tasks. For example: instead of staying in the shower until your body wants to move, limit yourself to a 10-minute shower.
The Evening Routine
Arduous, complex tasks may not be accomplished in one night. Break it down into smaller action items you can tackle daily. Creating a schedule, and prioritizing the most urgent, will be imperative. An evening schedule might look like the following:
6:00PM: Home
6:10PM: Shower
6:25PM: Cook dinner, chat with family and friends
7:15PM: Eat
8:30PM: Nap
9:15PM: Study (read chapter 4&5)
11:00PM: Write schedule/to-do list for tomorrow
11:30PM Yoga
11:45PM Bedtime

After you practice living by the written schedule, you may need to tweak it and reschedule a few tasks. For example, you may need a long nap and less cooking time or prefer not to have a nap and go to bed much earlier. Being nimble is essential, but remember to ensure your actions throughout the day all add up to the ultimate task, whether finishing school, all while staying fit or managing your household while simultaneously prioritizing your health.
Weekday evening routines will look different than the weekend schedule. Likewise, some weekdays will even vary. But be sure to develop habits around the tasks that don't change - like meals and sleep. Always keep the bigger goal.
