Morning Routine

Updated: Jan 7, 2023

Create a morning routine as you develop good habits for the new year.

Every successful person starts their day in a particular order, with consistency and small actions throughout the day that all add up to the ultimate goal.

The Night Before

The key to a successful morning is having a restful night, which is inclusive of more than an adequate amount of sleep. Resting is a state of mind and physicality where both the mind and body are at ease. It does not require a lot of energy; it's simply a state of being. To ensure your mind isn't keeping mental tabs on all the essential things you must do the next day, you should organize your to-do list, ideas, and thoughts the day before. Some people may want to use the preloaded apps on their phone, their notes, and the calendar app, while others may want to leverage an app with more flexibility and options, like ClickUp or Asana.

Apps and Templates to Help Organize Your Day, Thoughts, and Life

  1. ClickUp - All of your work in one place: Tasks, docs, chat, goals, and more, with the ability to track progress in real-time. Here's a daily planner template to help you manage your goals, household, and more.

  2. Asana: Helps you manage projects, focus on what's important, and organize work in one place for seamless collaboration. Customize this template to keep track of all of your tasks

Plan out your day - make use of every minute and time slot. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to spend 12 consecutive hours working, but you'll spend less time figuring out what to do next.

Limiting screen time is also essential during your bedtime. Instead of being entertained or using energy to solve a complex puzzle, you should focus on winding down. Stretching your muscles before bed relaxes the body and is a great way to prepare your body for a restful night. And, of course, you'll ultimately need a bedtime.

Morning Routine

Many people use an alarm clock, while others prefer to allow their bodies to wake them. Let's assume you've decided on a 10PM bedtime and start your day at 5AM. Your day may look like this:

5:00AM: The alarm goes off. Drink a cup of water

5:05AM: Prayer & Meditation

5:15AM: Exercise

6:00AM: Get ready for work

7:00AM: Breakfast (smoothie) & podcast (morning news)

7:30AM: Commute to work & podcast

8:30AM: Work

Consider spending more time on the vital task of the day and less time figuring out other things, like what to do next or what to eat. Not that it's not essential, but by pre-planning your meals and having simple but nutrient-packed meals, you can quickly jumpstart your day and find more time and brain power for other activities. Simplify your mornings and spend more time on the tasks that will get you to your goal.
